Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Today is our favorite whimsical authors birthday.
Last year, my neighbor Kristy and I made PLANS.
I mean plans.
Check it out here.
So much so, that it was hard to think of stuff to do today.
We did so much stuff that Sandy Toes and Popcicles asked me to guest post on her blog about that crazy day last year.
Check it out here.

Today, however didn't go as PLANNED.
Not all days do!
Here is what was planned and how our day would have gone...
and in italics is what actually happened.

Green Eggs and Ham for Breakfast
We ate green eggs and ham, and the twins played out the story quite nicely. Berkleigh wasn't afraid, and ate them right away. She had to convince Merrick, and once he ate them he loved them.
Successful!

Dr. Seuss storytime at our local library.
My neighbors were ready to go and we were all getting into our cars, when I couldn't find my keys. We looked everywhere. Never found them. Tyson got home to give me his keys at 10:10... storytime started at 10.
Lost key update: Still lost.

A little trip to the Fingernut Gallery in Laguna Beach to see all the Dr. Seuss paintings and sculptures.
I had to go to the church to set up for New Beginnings (Survivor style). I was there with my friends from 12 until 2.
New Beginnings update: We rocked it! Everyone loved the theme, and I bet it was the first New Beginnings that was boring.
Museum update: It rocks, and we are going next week if you want to come.

We were going to make Fox (out of) Socks puppets and read Fox in Socks!
After we set up, we realized we were missing a couple of decorations, so we came home and made them.

We were going to play a stacking game with paper plate turtles and read Yertle the Turtle!
Merrick and Berkleigh were grumpy 1 and grumpy 2 today. I had them lay in their beds, and they actually slept for 2 hours! They don't nap anymore, so this was a very good thing.

Make these green egg and ham treats!
Photo and idea Found here.
This is about the time I realized I wouldn't be able to do much of the things we had planned, so I just didn't bother to make these, but aren't they brillant!

We were gonna hop on pop! How amazing is this idea. If you are in need of Dr. Seuss ideas, this is the place to go!
Photo and idea found here.
I went to New Beginnings and had to pack for our little getaway trip for tomorrow so we didn't get to do this either.

We were going to eat these awesome pancakes for dinner!
Photo and idea found here.
And we did eat these for dinner! They were scrumptious and amazing. The twins had fun making them and eating them.
At least one thing went as planned today!

And so there is our planned but not carried through Dr. Seuss Day!
What a bummer. At least we had some themed meals!
Days like this happen to everyone....

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Seussed

We celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday all day yesterday, however it was a little sad, cause my "lesson planner, crazy random holiday celebrator, spontaneous co conspirator" was stuck celebrating by herself and kids in HB while we celebrated here by ourselves....

We really enjoyed ourselves this year though! I love a good reason to eat treats and play!

If you are gonna play hard you need a well balanced mean of "Green Eggs and Ham and Cat in the Hat Pancakes".

After breakfast we watched Green Eggs and Ham, and I got out our Thing 1 and Thing 2 wigs.

We really needed to clean our house, so M and B did the opposite of Thing 1 and Thing 2 and cleaned up the mess in their wigs instead of making the mess.

We read our Dr. Seuss Books at home, and went to the library to read more.

Our Dr. Seuss snack this year was Truffula Trees!
(Last minute idea with stuff I had in the house)

They were good!

And then we invited our friends, the Maughans to see The Lorax that night, and there was just not enough room for Rachel and I, so we had to sit in a whole different row from our children. :)

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Tuesday, March 2

Said the Cat in the Hat...

I meant what I said,
and I said what I meant,
we are gonna have fun
One Hundred per cent!

I love Ted Geisel aka... Dr. Seuss!
I love every book he has ever written.
So on his birthday we had a little fun, of course!
Remember I get obsessive when I like something. See this post for another obsession of mine. :)

We woke up and read the book Green Eggs and Ham,

and ate Green Eggs and Ham while watching the movie!

Then we got dressed in our "Sneetches" with "stars upon thars" shirts that we made the night before. If you have never tried freezer paper stenciling, you need to! My friend Emily had made about a million shirts, and they turn out so cute I thought I would try!

We read the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck, which is long so we paraphrased, but then we made oobleck. I love this! My dad used to make it with us when we were kids. It is amazing. You can hand it to someone in a ball and it will melt immediately in their hands. Try it!
Recipe:
cornstarch and water.

Easy right?

Then we needed a snack! So we read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and made the Yink's Pink Ink Drink. Yum!

Then naps and the baking began! HOW CUTE ARE THESE!

I love anything Thing 1 and Thing 2! It reminds me of my kids on their first Halloween!

Yum!

After the scrumptious cupcakes, Tyson and I took the kids down to the beach, so they could be the Sneetches on the beaches... (sorry no pics it was dark)

Then Tyson read them Horton Hears a Who, and we made these adorable clovers with the who dust on top.

We had such a fun day, and tomorrow they are learning more about Dr. Seuss at preschool! I love being a stay at home mom!
