Thankful Days

Last year, ucreate had a Thankful Countdown.
We didn't do it last year, but I was really excited to try it this year now that the twins are a little older.

On Monday, we had FHE and talked about things we were grateful for. We wrote them on fruit and veggies and put them in our cornucopia.

Then we cut out our feathers to send to family and friends for our Thankful Thanksgiving Turkey.

All this past week, we have picked something out of the jar and talked about why we are thankful for that thing. There is an activity that goes along with it too...

Here are the activities we did this week.
Thankful for Turkeys
Make Paper Turkey Art Project
We sent our Turkey Feathers out!

Thankful for Mom!
Berkleigh and Merrick helped me make dinner.
I was making Cilantro Pesto, and Berkleigh pulled off EVERY single leaf of 2 bunches of cilantro.
That was a huge help.!

Thankful for our house!
We cleaned our house and our rooms!

Thankful for Grandparents.
Called to say, "I love you!"

Thankful for my family.
Played Memory together!

Thankful for my eyes.
We went to the dollar theater and saw
Despicable Me.

Thankful for our teachers.
Made them cookies and gave them a card to go with them.

Stay tuned for more thankful days!

A Vote for Craig Scott is a Vote for Yourself...

Yesterday was election day. I hope you all voted!
I love voting. I love knowing that my measly little ballot was counted towards something that could make a difference.

My father in law is on the City Council of Laguna Hills.
He is awesome, and up for re-election. My father in law is not new to this, he has been up for re-election before, because he has been on the city council for 20 years, and the mayor 4 times!
He helped established the city and was one of the first elected officials of Laguna Hills.
BUT... this year, there was some crazy mudslinging. This woman (nasty) came in to destroy my father in law and to take his place on the city council.
It was sad.

So, after preschool, voting and dinner group, the kids and I made these patriotic oreos to take over to grandpa at the "Scott Headquarters" on election night.

There were no balloons, but a quiet dinner with treats. There weren't a million people, just some of the people that matter. There were no fog horns and screaming, just kids sleeping, and the phone ringing off the hook as all the kids called in to check up on their dad.

We watched Gilmore Girls, then Craig being interviewed on TV while awaiting the results, then we would run to the computer to check the numbers as the ballots were counted.

He was third place all night, with the (nasty) woman (with the weird Tourette syndrome twitch) in the lead.
Seriously? Do some research.

Anyways, we left at 1 am with still only 5 precincts reporting and Craig still in third place.
On our way home, my father in law called. He had lost. They had counted all the ballots, and he had lost by 40 votes.

But, all we know, is whatever happens he is still an awesome father, grandpa, and father in law.

Halloween 2010

What you have all been waiting for... well, at least my mom and dad.

Introducing...
Mary Poppins, Bert, and Jane & Michael Banks!
I have wanted to do this FOREVER because I think it is a perfect family themed costumes! I wanted to do it before the kids cared too much about who they were, and they LOVE Mary Poppins... so they were actually really excited!

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soarin

(I cannot get enough of this picture.)
All Merricks clothes, made the pants, made the kite, borrowed the hat from great grandpa.

We won't hide your spectacles so you can't see
Put toads in your bed, or pepper in your tea
Hurry, Nanny!
Many thanks
Sincerely,
Jane and Michael Banks.
borrowed the dress from "Brittany's childhood closet", curled her hair...
Chim chiminey, Chim chiminey, Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky, As lucky can be
All Tyson's clothes, made the scarf, borrowed the hat from my grandpa, and made the chimney sweep.

Oh, it's a jolly holiday with Mary
Mary makes your 'eart so light
When the day is gray and ordinary
Mary makes the sun shine bright!
Borrowed the coat, own the umbrella, made my hat, bought the skirt at DI, my mom made the scarf for me, borrowed the carpet bag.

We were all dressed up with somewhere to go! We went to our ward trick or treat.

Then we headed to Grandpa and Grandma's house.
We enjoyed carving our white pumpkin:
Tyson took the guts out and Berkleigh drew the face.

I carved and Merrick poked at the lid.

That is what I call team work!

We had a feast.

We crashed on the couch!

And because Halloween was on a Sunday, I wanted the kids to look cute for church, so I made them matching tie from this pattern (which I did for easter) and skirt!

We didn't go trick or treating, but we had a wonderful feast with our neighborhood...
Mexican Chowder, broccoli cheese soup, garlic soup, pumpkin rolls, yummy salad, and gingersnaps with pumpkin dip.

A perfect Halloween!

The week before...

We had some fun leading up to Halloween.

There is nothing like Halloween at Disneyland!
We let the kids dress up (in random costumes from last year and when I was a kid) and ran around the Magic Kingdom for the day!

We went to a fun fun pumpkin patch...

We had our Halloween party at preschool!
Lame, but the kids loved it.
