We are learning to be more self sufficient.
Gardening is one way we are working on that. :)

Cause you know, if something happened, we could survive on carrots, tomatoes and strawberries.
Ha.

Well, I have been wanting to start our garden, but have been hesitant of when because it rains here in Oregon. Did you know that?

Anyways, I didn't want my seeds to drown.

But, while I was waiting to plant the garden, Tyson "surprised" me by planting it while I was away at a running seminar for our Stake Triathlon.
He planted a WHOLE ROW of basil. Oh man. Anyone want some? That is gonna take over!
So we decided to have a bet who could grow the best garden...
We shall see who wins!

Well since it has been SUNNY and ga-gorgeous for 2 + weeks, I thought it was the perfect time.

This is before my side was planted.. I am the second half of the garden, Tyson's is the first half with the seed packets marking his rows.

AFTER
Tyson says I am cheating because I BOUGHT my tomato plants and didn't start from a seed, but everyone in Oregon does that, otherwise you would never have tomatoes.
I did plant carrots from seed and we are going to try our hand at a watermelon.
Hehe. We shall see how that goes.

We have had a little big of success!
Our first strawberry!

And speaking of gardens...
Last night we had our Enrichment Activity. We had a garden party.
My job was to come up with the decor.

Here is what I came up with...
The centerpieces on the tables had a cut log, doilies, lemons, mason jar with a fresh tulip and some white bunting flags.

The dinner serving table had HUGE cut up logs from my neighbors side yard, more tulips, mason jars and candles, along with some fake mossy rocks, which makes me laugh. Why buy fake mossy rocks when EVERY ROCK has moss on it in Oregon.

We learned about Square Foot Gardening, all kinds of flowers, companion planting, being self reliant
and then we got to make homemade Garden Scrub and these cute garden spoon markers.

It was such a fun activity!

Love your little garden!!! Your strawberry is beautiful!!! Are you going to divide it 5 ways? You might want to add a little garden soil in with your dirt...it will help all of your plants to grow!!!
Love ya!!!
