Day 69:We let our butterfly, Comida, go today... it was sad, but wonderful. I have never seen such a spastic butterfly. It wanted out of it's special cage SO bad!!

Day 67: Hottest Day Ever

On Friday, I had something else planned, but when it is this HOT...

You gotta do what you gotta do! And in our case, it was go to the splash pad that we have been to a couple of times...

And it was good!

Guess What?

We have a new addition to our family!

Our new butterfly emerged while I was at Target on Friday morning. I think he wanted to go, I mean, who wouldn't?

We have enjoyed watching him for the last couple of days. We feed him sugar water, and took him on a road trip to Grandma and Grandpa's to show them our lovely Painted Lady.

I asked the twins what they wanted to name him, and they said, Food. I thought that was weird, but in further questioning, I realized they wanted to name him food because in the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", the caterpillar eats LOTS of food.

I thought the name Food was boring, so we turned it into Comida (spanish for food), and it has a little flair and still is what the kids picked out!

I think it was amazing to watch a caterpillar go through his life cycle. I will be sad to see Comida go.. we will let him go on Sunday, so he can live out the rest of his 14 day life in happiness.

A Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious Day

I had something else planned today, but my friend Kristy told me that today was the 45th anniversary of Mary Poppins... one of my FAVORITE movies...

So we changed our plans and had a Mary Poppins day!

Bert: "Wait a minute, I know that silloutte anywhere! Mary Poppins!"
(Art project: We made Mary Poppins hats for the girls, and Bert hats for the boys.)

Michael: "We are going on a walk in the park..."
(Exercise: Walked in the the million degree heat.)

Mary Poppins: "Just what I suspected, Practically Perfect in Every Way!"
(Drama: We watched Mary Poppins in our hats.)

Mary Poppins: "I think it would be nice, to start with some Rasberry Ice, and then some cakes and tea..."
(Dessert: We enjoyed our own version of Rasberry Ice.)

Bert: "Chim Chimeree Chim Chimeree Chim Chimeree, I likes what I like, and I likes what I do."
(Art Project: We went outside and sketched chalk drawings like Bert.)

Mary Poppins: "Feed the birds, tuppence a bag, tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag."
(Outdoor activity: We went to the park to feed the "birds".)

Mr. Banks: "Let's go fly a kite, up to the highest height. Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring up..."
(Outdoor Activity: We went to the park and flew a kite.)

We had a super....cious day! Hope yours was too!

Coolest Park

We went to this park yesterday for Fun Day 65.

Besides it being 1 million degrees, it was the cutest, coolest, most ingenious park I have ever been to.

I will be going back in October when kids are in school and the air is cool and crisp... maybe I will feel like I am in New England...

It is an island.. and it is to cute for words...

There were little rowboats everywhere that kids could sit in and pretend they were boating...
Around the boats were millions of ducks and turtles.

Seriously, how cute is this place?

These houses were all over the island..

Inside each house were things like this...

There were waterfalls, tunnels, stairs, slides, and all manner of climbing apparati...

And no island is complete without a pirate ship with 8 cannons...

Seriously, a fun time... who is coming with me in October?

64: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

My kids love this book...

and...

remember this post, when we mailed off for a secret surprise...

Well, the twins have been waiting for the mailman to bring our fun day.. and he did!

We sent off for some very hungry caterpillars..

We got 5.
(however 4 of them were dead from heat and being sent, but I called and they will be sending more, because they guarantee that you will get 5)

First he was the size of the length of a dime.

We have watched him grow and eat, and eat and grow...

and became the size of a quarter and a nickel lengthwise.

He spun webs of silk to help him move around the bigger he got, and then he crawled to the top of the jar...

And...

So we have been waiting for him to finish making his cocoon.

Yesterday, day 64, was transfer day..
I love this picture because I look possessed, and Berkleigh is SOO excited!

I love this picture because Berkleigh is flapping her arms like a butterfly, and Merrick looks concerned that I am touching the caterpillar because I burned that into their heads that they couldn't touch our caterpillar friend while he was growing.

We pinned him into our butterfly garden...

And here is the happy family, minus Tyson playing photog.
