Fat Tuesday

My parents live in Louisiana right now, so that makes me Cajun, right? Well, even if I'm not, I still made gumbo and king cake today! We had some friends over to try it out...

My homemade Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.

Berkleigh and Merrick devouring it.

The King Cake

The baby found inside. It was found in my neighbor's, Tom, piece. I read up on finding the baby and it is a sign of good luck, but also they are supposed to host the next King Cake Party, and they become the 'Queen' of Mardi Gras. Don't be mad Tom, I am just quoting wikipedia.

And what is Mardi Gras without some beads...
Happy Mardi Gras!

That looks great! I think ANY reason to celebrate should be used!

I can't believe they are TWO!

Happy late birthday Merrick and Berkleigh!

I guess that means I will be hosting the party next year. Do you really think Tom will be the "queen" and host? Now that I think of it, he would love to bake the king cake...

Happy Mardi Gras, very festive!! FYI, real Cajuns (that's us!) don't put tomatoes in their gumbo. People from New Orleans sometimes do...but Cajuns, no. ;)

Looks like a fun excuse to celebrate and have friends over!! The twins are too cute. I love the picture in the post before of them on the couch hiding behind their pillows because it's nap time. Classic.

Amen to what Susan said! haha But it did look yummy anyway. I read your blog all the time, Jenn, and I love it. The kids are adorable. We moved to Saudi Arabia so we missed Mardi Gras this year! So sad.....

I love your silverware--the fork (?) in the gumbo is awesome! And so is the gumbo. And the cake. And you. :)

I've always been afraid of gumbo....so many flavors at once. Would you recommend it for those who like seafood occasionally? (It has shrimp, right?)
Send me your recipe if it's handy.
