All I need is "Sheer" Luck

This mop needs cutting! I know some of you have had to cut little hairs...
(Jenny! I know you just did it.)
How did you keep them still?
How do I cut Berkleigh's hair without loosing the curls?
How do I cut Merrick's hair so it is even?
I NEED SOME TIPS cause this mullet and this rat tail have got to go!

As soon as we cut Annie's hair the first time, all her cute baby curl was gone! :( Hopefully you can save Berkleigh's sweet curls! I let my kids watch TV while I cut their hair, or sit them on the sink of the bathroom with a squirt bottle of water and let them spray away. Good Luck!

Jen you can bring them to my house- I cut hair for a little while before nursing school, just let me know! ( I won't charge you)

so when I did Kate's I just put on a movie and sat her in her bumbo with some treats. that did the trick to keep her still for the most part.

as for the cutting i sprayed it to get it kind of wet and then just trimmed it a tiny bit in a straight line kind of. oh i also combed the bangs in front and trimmed those up, and then kate kind of has two layers going on in the back so i pulled out the top layer and gave that a trim as well. i just totally winged it so i don't know if you really want to follow what i did but her hair turned out okay i thought.

anyways, good luck!

Strap them into a chair-- you can borrow one of ours, in front of their favorite movie, give them a sucker, have one of you working the shears as fast as you can and the other one distracting...not such a fun thing to do, but it'll be worth it! Don't have any advice for Berk's hair...But, just take the machine to Merricks on the longest setting, if you're nervous, just to even if out...you can make it shorter as you go, if you want. That's all I have to say about that. :)

February huh? I already have it on my calender. We don't have a huge apartment, but you guys are more than welcome to stay with us. We would love it, but if you have other family or friends I understand, but we are anxious!!!!!

Yeah, I don't know about girls, but for Clark, I strip him down, throw him in the tub with a dum-dum and go to town with the clippers. Start with the longest setting and work your way down to your comfort level. I ended up using the shortest setting for around his ears and in the back and a middle one for the top. Or you can just use scissors for the top (did that last time, but ended up chopping his hand as he tried to push me away). Clark simply will not stay still at any time, but especially for haircuts, so I just figure some will be better than others and we will survive with some very botched jobs until he's big enough to sit still for mommy. Oh, and this last time, I got tired of trying to chase him all over the tub, so I just got in with him. I needed a shower after anyway 'cause he squirms around so much that hair gets EVERYWHERE.

I LOATHE cutting my son's hair. But the best luck we have had was when we followed my friend's advice, and gave him a sucker (it was a little hairy after a while), and sat him in the bathtub and gave him a bath after the cut. It made clean-up a snap!

I love the rat tail, it reminds me of New Kids on the Block. Way to go Merrick (aka little donny??)

That is a SWEET mullet!!! Good luck with the hair cuts, i do basically what everyone else has mentioned. Put the kid in a chair, put on a movie, give them candy and just buzz away as fast as you can!!!

Ryan needs a hair cut too..but I'm afraid to lose the curls, his hair is looking kind of mud flapish!! I totally feel your pain!! I have no hints sorry!!

It worked well for us to put Blake in the sink with a little water running. The water kept him occupied and we went to town with the clippers. We've tried to use the shears to clean up a little bit after the clippers. Suckers are awesome now. Good luck.

We set up our portable DVD player in the kitchen, and with James, we buckle him in his booster seat. Despite that, our children are far from staying still. You just kinda have to work with a wiggly head. Merrick's hair may be especially hard, but for Berkleigh, like I found out with Kate, curls are VERY forgiving (they hide any mistakes--though I know you won't have any!)

Good Luck!!

I have the same problem! Cutting hair is so annoying but more annoying is the mullets that they all get.

When all else fails, use the head lock. It gets the job done and puts you all out of your misery faster than dancing around with candy! ;) Sad, but true around here.

Michael lost all of his curl when I cut it; I almost cried. But I got over it. He's adorable anyway.

I have them sit on bar stools so that their heads are higher and I'm not leaning over the whole time. (Of course, I cute four heads in a session.) My kids FREAK out with suckers, though--they get hairy and it makes them mad and wigglier. I have Jake hold Henry to keep him from running away, and the tv is always on. However, I can't use clippers with my kids when they are little--their hair is so fine that it just slips through. I have to use scissors. Angle your scissors vertically on the back of Merrick's head (closer at the nape of his neck and farther away at the crown). The first time I cut Bryant's hair, I cut horizontally, and the sharp lines were terrible, like what I remember in junior high. Only not cool anymore.

I just have to say that I like the photos on the right side. They crack me up. I busted up laughing when I saw them.
