I am a Slave to the

pack and play...

Every morning after the twins wake up, I look like this:

Every night before the twins go to bed, I look like this:

Why, you ask?

Well, the twins sleep in different rooms for naps during the day, but they sleep in the same room at night. Every day since they were 4 months old, I have carried the pack n play from one room to the other twice.

Lets do the math...

4 months to 16 months = 1 year = 365 days x 2 transfers of the pack n play = 730 transfers!!!
16 months to 21 months = 5 months = 30 days x 5 += 150 days x 2 transfers of the pack n play
= 300 transfers!!!

730 transfers + 300 transfers =

GRAND TOTAL: 1030 transfers of the pack n play...

I wanna be done! Is it too early to put my chillins in their own toddler beds? I just want something to decorate, and two cute beds to put up... I have it all decorated in my head, but I just have to take the plunge..

Do you think the twins are ready to 1. sleep together for nap time and 2. ready to have toddler beds?

My motto is to keep them in cribs for as long as possible- before you know it nap time becomes unload the dresser and toy box time! It really depends on the kid, in your case kids :) Karson was 18m when we put him in a toddler bed, but Boston (2y 4m) is still in his crib- you could always make them "sleeping bag" beds on the floor to try it out???? OR, find a cheep 2nd pack n play on Craigslist

I agree with your friend Amy... I keep my kids in their crib as long as possible... then you have the control. Nate is still in his crib and he is 2 1/2 and I have no plans to move him yet. The funny thing is... I have had the same crib for all three kids and they love this crib.

Leave them. I would have had they not climbed out so early. The sleep thing is a huge consistency for you. Any Mom would be jealous at what you have accomplished with twins no less. As badly as you want to decorate, it's not worth it. Yet. The nap thing: why not try and save yourself the work. But if I recall correctly, Merrick doesn't sleep as long so unless Berkleigh is a deep sleeper that might be bad too! I might try if I were you to see. If that doesn't work it's an easy fix at least.

I agree with Amy. I wish Max was still in a crib! I wanted to move him into a toddler bed before the baby came so I was not up with two kids at night. He loves his big boy bed but, he gets up all the time. He will not stay in it. He used to go to bed at 8-8:30 in his crib and now it is like 10 before he falls asleep.

...but on the other hand the twins are great sleepers and they might be fine in toddler beds.

My boys are 10 and 8 and they still cannot calmly go to sleep in the same room together. I have to yell at them for at least a half hour every night to stop messing around and GO TO SLEEP!!! But I've never been very good at organization and routines and that sort of thing. (I really need Super Nanny at my house). You are probably much better at that stuff and so it could work for you.

Whenever ya'll decide to do it, it will be a little rough on all of you with the new adjustments and bounderies. I remember my son wanted to come out of his room every night but knew he wasn't supposed to. Every night he would fall asleep in the doorway and would have to be carried to bed. They have to learn there bounderies at some point. If your ready to work with them on that now, I say go for it. Decorating is calling at you! Love your blog! Great to catch up on your family.

I loved reading this post, and the comments. Why don't we have a manual? Try it. It might work, it might not. It might get better, it might not. You are such a good Mom, just go with your gut.
PS. Now I know where you get your arm muscle strength from :)

Wow! Thanks guys! I like the idea of trying the sleeping bags to see if they will stay in their designated area.

I think I will try putting them down for their nap in the same room in the next couple of days to see if they will sleep just as long.

I don't want to give up their super long naps. Berkleigh slept for almost 4 hours yesterday and Merrick slept for 3. I love that time! :)

Thanks for the advice!

Jon still sleeps in a crib for his nap time. It's so much easier to control him that way.

We just moved James to a toddler bed a few weeks ago (upcoming blog post...). It went well (and I DON'T regret it), but it can be tough at times.

Your children are awesome sleepers! I think that they would do great. I mean, they grab their blankies when you tell them it is bedtime. You are awesome, which means they will do awesome! Go, Fight, Win!!!

Ok my comment is going to be different from everyone else so maybe should be ignored. I put Kadence in a toddler bed early (as Corban needed the crib when he arrived. She stayed in it better than the crib. It was as if she knew she had the freedom to leave if she wanted, but didn't need to. Corban was the same way. We made his change because he was crawling over and I was worried he was going to hurt himself. He stayed in his bed great as well. Who knows-you know your kids the best and therefore will make the best decision.

your face in the last morning picture is so great, i have definitely seen you make that face before. um i have no clue about the sleeping stuff but i just figured i'll keep kate in her crib for as long as she'll let me. they even have crib tents you can buy for when they start climbing out...

Since Elizabeth and Blake are eighteen months apart, we moved Blake to a toddler bed at seventeen months. He loved it and slept wonderfully at night. It is a sweet car toddler bed. Initially during naps he was fine until he realized he had freedom--then I had to lock him in his room (me sitting there holding the door until he gave up and went to sleep--or sometimes I would put a chair under the door latch to keep it locked from the outside). I don't even keep toys in his room now because they are too much of a temptation to play with. He plays wherever I am anyway, which is usually not in his room. I have a toy box right outside. It's rough to know what to do. I'm sure whatever you decide will be great. Naps are really rough at our house sometimes.
